Among the many night life attractions in Southern Maine, Portland has a funny bone in the Comedy Connection on Fore Street. This comedy venue is one of the very few in Southern Maine. In fact, it’s only one of two comedy clubs in Southern Maine, both of which are in the Portland area.
This is one of the things to do in Southern Maine that visitors can check out while on vacation any time of the year.
The Comedy Connection presents a lot of good shows including one group that is purely improv. I’ve never seen a live improv comedy show, but I’ve always wanted to. “Whose Line is it Anyway” which used to air on ABC Family, was an entirely improvised comedy show (although I have a slight inclination to think there was a little bit of acting there).
If you’d like to learn about how to do comedy improv, Whose Line site offers a special video from Wayne Brady.
A few years ago, Maine’s great iconic comedian was subjected into the Guiness Book of World Records after having the longest stand-up record here in Maine at the Comedy Connection. His stand-up presentation lasted 38 hours. It was certainly an epic once-in-a-lifetime event to have been part of the experience among the audience. Unfortunately, I didn’t go since I had to study for college exams. But I sure do regret it now not sharing my support for Maine’s own comedian.
The Comedy Connection is right in the Old Port which connects all visitors to the rest of Portland’s thriving night life.
