Apart from skiing and snowboarding, you can also go snowshoeing and cross country skiing in southern Maine. Do you know why Maine is known as the Vacationland? Because Maine’s wilderness provides us with something to do all year round!
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the city scene. Boston and New York are my favorites–they’re awesome. But there’s no difference being in a city during the summer or winter…just that there’s snow on the ground. What’s different in Maine? Well for one thing, the trails we enjoy for mountain biking or horseback riding in the summer are now available for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter.
Snow Trails with Rentals:
Among the trails adventurers can go on for cross-country skiing in Southern Maine, is Smiling Hill Farm in Westbook and Carter’s X-C Ski Center in Oxford. Harris Farm in Dayton, Lost Valley in Auburn, and Pineland Farms in New Gloucester has both cross-country skis and snowshoe rentals. Pine Land Farms also has skating too!
Public Trails in Southern Maine:
Libby Hill Trails in Gray is a public area for visitors that bring their own equipment to cross-country ski or snowshoe. There are some trails available for horseback riding during the summer months too.
